Keeping a blasting magazine away from high voltage lines is about creating a safe buffer to prevent electrical arcing or interactions with the explosive materials. High voltage lines can flash over to nearby objects if the gap is too small, especially in wet conditions or during line faults. That’s why a minimum distance of 100 feet is used—it provides a conservative clearance so that a line fault, equipment contact, or mishap during blasting won’t reach or affect the magazine. Distances smaller than this increase the risk of arcing or accidental ignition, so they are not considered safe.
